Limitless Long Distance Love
Trey and Meghan met in high school during their junior year, but sparks didn’t start to fly until a camping trip (so romantic) during their senior year.
After casually dating for a few months, Meghan finally got up the courage to ask him to be her boyfriend (amazing, right?!) to which he responded, “you have to be in it for the long haul if we are going to keep doing this because I’m joining the Marines.”
It took two more tries for Meghan to finally hear a “yes” out of him on New Years Day that year. Trey joined the Marines shortly after they started dating, and in October of Meghan’s Freshman year of college, he shipped off to bootcamp for 3 months. Before he left, Trey told Meghan that if they could stay together through bootcamp, that meant they were meant to be.
Throughout the day, both Meghan and Trey were a bundle of nerves. He was over-the-moon excited to see her and Meghan was quite emotional and I could tell that her heart was swelling with joy throughout the day. The moment she saw him during their first look, I could tell that all of the nerves had melted away.
Back to their story. After bootcamp, long distance for 4 years, and one 8-month deployment, Meghan and Trey were finally living in the same state again for the first time since high school. Shortly after he returned home, Trey and Meghan got their first place together and their first puppy, Mahle.
While Meghan was working as a nurse, Trey started a job at Crown as a forklift mechanic and started school to get his mechanical engineering degree. Trey had convinced Meghan he wouldn’t propose until he was done with school.
To Meghan’s surprise, Trey got down on one knee - a bit early - and asked for Meghan’s hand using her grandmother’s ring on a trip with ther close friends to Gulf Shores. Queue the waterworks! Meghan was actually so shocked that she thought Trey was joking!
Meghan’s parents have been together for 26 years and Trey’s dad and step mom have been together for 20 years. They each grew up watching their parents build healthy, happy marriages. Meghan and Trey both hope to have a long, healthy and happy marriage together. One where they build each other up, not down, and support each other through the best and the worst of times.
“Trey is one of the kindest, sweetest, most easy-going people I know and I can’t wait to watch him model that to our future children.” - Meghan
Currently, Meghan is working as a nurse and she is also in grad school to become a Nurse Practitioner. Trey is about to finish up his mechanical engineering degree and is still working at Crown. They have now been together for 7 and a half years.
Many of Trey’s marine buddies from bootcamp, Camp Lejune where he was stationed, and their deployment, all came from across the US to support them. Seeing all of them out on the dance floor living it up made Trey and Meghan’s hearts so happy. You could tell that this love story had affected and touched everyone there for many years leading up to this point. I still feel so blessed to have been a part of their “crew'“ for one day.
Needless to say, the month of May in 2019 was filled with amazing weddings, “clients” turned friends, and sweet love stories that overwhelmed my heart. Meghan and Trey’s wedding certainly restored my faith in real love stories. Absolutely nothing was “forced” about these two. They made me feel like I had a been a part of their family for years… at the end of their wedding day, I felt like the lucky one.
